MERU MOTION MODEL DOCUMENT (Current Project)
This model was created to work out the actions and motion needed for the Meru Series. In the documentary film patrician board is used to simulate cracked and broken concrete slabs that is puppeteered from above to show the progression of movement that the rigs will create.
In the full-scale artwork starting from the centre of the broken area of sidewalk, large loose slabs of concrete will rise and fall in the motion of a breathing, resting chest. The concealed artificial mechanism creating this motion sits underneath the surface and measures approximately 16 ft long x 6 ft wide x 2 ft deep. It is intended for the work to exist on a busy wide pedestrian sidewalk in the downtown financial district of Manhattan. In the final artwork a construction barrier and all the normal roadworks equipment will surround the piece keeping a separation between itself and the public.
